Clivia is an elegant and popular indoor foliage plant with high ornamental value. Its flower colors and varieties are becoming increasingly rich, attracting many flower lovers. However, many people often encounter various problems when maintaining it at home. Let’s learn the cultivation techniques and precautions of Clivia below. 1. Breeding techniques 1. Soil selection Clivia is suitable for growing in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. You can choose leaf mold, pine needle soil and river sand and mix them in a ratio of 3:2:1. This kind of soil not only provides rich nutrients but also ensures good air permeability and drainage. 2. Watering management The fleshy roots of Clivia have a certain water storage capacity, so watering should not be too frequent. Follow the principle of "water when dry and water when wet", that is, water after the soil surface is 2-3 cm dry, and water thoroughly each time. The frequency of watering in different seasons is as follows: water every 2-3 days in spring and autumn. Water every 5-7 days in summer, preferably in the morning or evening. Water once every 7-10 days in winter and keep the soil slightly moist. 3. Lighting management Clivia likes scattered light and avoids direct sunlight. Light management in different seasons is as follows: In spring and autumn, Clivia can be placed in a bright place indoors and receive 4-6 hours of diffuse light. In summer, 50%-70% shade is required to prevent leaf burns. In winter, you can increase the lighting time appropriately and place it in a sunny place indoors. 4. Temperature Control The suitable temperature for Clivia to grow is between 15℃-25℃: in summer when the temperature exceeds 30℃, cooling measures need to be taken, such as spraying water mist and increasing ventilation. When the temperature is below 10℃ in winter, the growth is slow; when the temperature is below 5℃, it may suffer frost damage. It should be moved to a warm place indoors and the room temperature should be kept at 15℃-20℃. 5. Fertilization tips During the growing season (spring and autumn), apply thin liquid fertilizer, such as decomposed cake fertilizer water, every 1-2 months. During the arrow-forming period, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution, to promote flower bud differentiation and flower development. Generally no fertilizer is applied in summer and winter to avoid fertilizer damage. 6. Repotting method Clivia is generally repotted every 1-2 years, and the best time is spring and autumn. When repotting, choose a pot that is one size larger than the original one. You can place stones or gravel at the bottom of the pot to improve air permeability and drainage. 2. Precautions 1. Avoid stagnant water The roots of Clivia are fleshy, and stagnant water can easily lead to root lack of oxygen and rot. The flower pots need to have good drainage holes, and the amount and frequency of watering must be strictly controlled. 2. Rotate the pot regularly To make the leaves of Clivia grow neatly and beautifully, turn the flowerpot every 7-10 days to allow the plant to receive light evenly. In short, by following the above cultivation techniques and precautions, you can take better care of the Clivia, so that it can grow healthily, have shiny and neat leaves, and bloom flowers during the flowering period.
