Generally, camellia plants that can be promoted to bud are mature plants that are over 5 years old. Young plants with a short growth period are not suitable for promoting buds.

The best time to promote camellia budding is during the differentiation period of its flower buds. The period from the end of May to the beginning of June every year is the critical time for camellia flower bud differentiation. It is best to promote bud formation at this time. You can judge based on the growth of the plant, whether the leaves are capped and whether the new branches have become lignified.

Water deduction

May and June are important periods for camellia flower bud differentiation. At this time, due to different maintenance methods, camellia may grow flower buds or leaf buds. Withholding water can promote the growth and differentiation of flower buds.

The specific method of withholding water is to reduce the number of watering and the amount of watering. The amount of water can be reduced to half of the normal watering, so that the soil can be kept drier and in a semi-thirsty state. Wait until obvious flower buds are visible on the camellia before resuming normal watering, but be careful not to use too much water or fertilizer right away.

Foliar fertilization

Foliar fertilization is a good way to promote camellia budding. Applying some potassium dihydrogen phosphate aqueous solution to the roots of camellia can achieve twice the result with half the effort.

In addition, you can also spray the leaves and branches of camellia once a week, spraying 2-3 times is enough. It is best to do it in the morning and evening, and do not spray on rainy days.

Light can play a very good role in the differentiation of flower buds of plants. If the camellia can be placed in full sunlight from the time it is taken out of the room to June, the plant will have short branches and thick leaves, and will not easily grow tall. It will also have more flower buds that grow together, and even in the leaf axils.
