Use sawdust and wood ash to grow flowers, no need to fertilize anymore

★ Uses of sawdust for growing flowers★

As cultivation medium

When growing flowers, adding a small amount of sawdust can effectively improve the soil structure. The added sawdust can be used without being decomposed. This is because sawdust decomposes relatively slowly, generates less heat, and will not cause significant damage to the root system.

If you want to use a large amount of sawdust as a cultivation medium, it is best to use it after it is decomposed to prevent root burn. When the sawdust is ready, you can put it in a plastic bag or bucket, then seal it with some water. It can be used after fermenting for about two months.

In addition, it is best not to use all sawdust for planting. First, the nutrition is not comprehensive enough, and second, the sawdust is too loose and the roots are not easy to fix.

As cutting medium

Sawdust has good ventilation and water retention functions. It turns white when lacking water and is easy to observe, so it is very successful for using it to propagate woody flowers such as roses, gardenias, and pomegranates.

Using sawdust for cuttings will result in quick and abundant rooting and strong plants. After rooting, the sawdust and the root system can be moved into the flowerpot together to reduce damage to the root system.

For cuttings, you can first expose the sawdust to the sun for a few days, carry out simple disinfection, and then you can use it for cuttings. After cuttings, the humidity of the sawdust is easy to control, so it will take root quickly.

Making fertilizer

The fermented sawdust is rich in nutrients and is loose and breathable. It is very suitable for cultivating flowers such as asparagus fern and orchids that have strict requirements on water. It is economical, affordable, clean and hygienic.

Used for high altitude layering

When aerial layering of plants such as azalea, camellia, and osmanthus, sawdust can be used as the substrate. The best time is during the rainy season, and the ring barking should be done about 15 centimeters away from the top of the branch.

Then wrap it in a plastic bag, put wet sawdust and nutrient soil (mix evenly) in the plastic bag, then tie the plastic bag tightly, and it will take root in two or three months.

★ Uses of wood ash for growing flowers★

Making seeding medium

When sowing, if you sprinkle a layer of wood ash on the soil surface, it can effectively increase the temperature of the soil and promote the germination of seeds as soon as possible.

As a cutting transplanting medium

During the process of cutting or transplanting, wood ash can be added to the soil to promote wound healing and quickly sprout new roots.

Leachate enhances resistance

Another use of wood ash is to use its extract. Put the wood ash into a bottle, then add an appropriate amount of water, about a ratio of 1:10, stir thoroughly, and after standing for a day, you can take the supernatant and use it.

Spraying wood ash can improve the drought resistance of flowers because wood ash is rich in potassium. It can also effectively prevent and control pests and diseases, such as aphids and red spiders.
