1. First of all, you should choose to do it when the soil in the pot is half dry and half wet. Observe the branches close to the potting soil, choose the boundary we intend to divide, and trim off the weak branches in the middle of the asparagus fern. 2. Insert a knife into the soil and cut along the dividing line we chose, dividing the roots in the soil into two parts, insert a playing card in the middle, and then fill it with potassium permanganate solution to sterilize and disinfect and prevent root rot. 3. During surgery, the smaller the cross-section of the wound is, the better. After the surgery, we must control water appropriately to prevent excessive water accumulation in the soil, which will cause rot in the root wound. 4. After one or two months, the root wounds will gradually heal and resume growth, then we can divide the pots. Dividing the roots in advance can avoid damaging the roots by pulling them hard when dividing the pots. 5. Half a month after inserting the playing cards, we will find that new branches have sprouted in the soil, which also proves that the root system is resuming growth. After 2 months, you can divide the plant. Turn the pot upside down, remove the plant from the pot, and gently divide the soil into two. 6. Because we performed the surgery in advance, the roots have already been separated. Now we just need to observe whether the roots are damaged. 7. If the root system has not turned black and the capillary roots are intact, we can directly put it in the pot. If the roots are damaged, we gently trim them off, apply a little wood ash and then put them in the pot. 8. When repotting, we can put a layer of expanded clay at the bottom of the pot. If there is no expanded clay, we can also put some small stones. This can effectively prevent water accumulation at the bottom of the pot and cause root rot, and the gaps between the particles are also conducive to the breathing of the roots. 9. For soil, we can choose nutrient soil and perlite, and add a small amount of coarse sand to mix. It is best for beginners not to add base fertilizer. Asparagus fern does not like large amounts of fertilizer, and it is easy to burn the roots if not controlled well! 10. When potting, it is best to leave the soil directly on. Bare-root potting is not conducive to the later root repair. When filling the soil, tap the pot wall lightly to allow the soil to compact naturally. 11. After potting, water the plants once to release the bubbles in the soil and allow the soil and roots to be closely combined. 12. After changing the pot, place the potted plant in a ventilated and cool place to slow down the growth. Be careful not to move it frequently. |
