How to prune wolfberry

Pruning during growth phase

Young age pruning

During the young stage of wolfberry, proper pruning helps the plant to take shape.

Pruning during the young stage mainly involves cutting off the sprouting young shoots and pinching the tops. Pinching can increase the branches of wolfberry and make the plant fuller.

Pruning during mature stage

Pruning during the adult stage of wolfberry is mainly to adjust the growth relationship between branches, balance the tree vigor, control the crown, renew branches, etc., so that its growth is more reasonable and the plant shape is more perfect.

Pruning during flowering period

Pruning during flowering is mainly for better fruiting. Wolfberry generally blooms in summer and autumn. The flowers in summer can be picked off because the fruits produced at this time are of poor quality. The flowers can be picked off to make it bear better fruit in autumn.

Four seasons pruning

Pre-winter pruning

Before entering winter, wolfberry can be pruned, mainly cutting off fallen leaves and fruits, so that it presents a strong winter tree shape, which is very ornamental.

Summer pruning

Summer pruning is the key to the growth of wolfberry fruit. In summer, multiple toppings can make it sprout branches and bloom and bear fruit normally. When pruning, remove the rhizomes and excess sprouts of the plant, shorten the branches on the upper layer of the crown, leaving only 20cm, and cut off the overgrown branches.

Pruning during dormancy

When pruning wolfberry, you can do the pruning. When pruning, first cut off the sucker branches, then cut off the overgrown branches, keep the strong branches in the crown and cut off the weak branches, shorten the middle part, and keep the fruiting branches in the lower part. The principle of pruning is to remove the old and keep the new, and to maintain a proper density.
