How to pollinate cyclamen

How to pollinate cyclamen

There are two ways to pollinate cyclamen: self-pollination and artificial pollination.

Both methods are relatively successful. The best time to pollinate is during the flowering period, and then choose a sunny day between 10-12 noon to pollinate. First, gently flick the pedicel with your hand, and the pollen will automatically fall onto the stigma. Remember not to use force!

Precautions for pollination of cyclamen

Item 1

When pollinating, it is best to choose the peak flowering period in January, which can help the germination rate of the seeds and maximize the chance of seed germination, because the chance of seed maturity will decrease as time goes by;

Item 2

When pollinating cyclamen, you should choose flowers that have bloomed for 3 days, because at this time, there is mucus on the stigma and the pollen is orange-yellow, which is a good time for pollination.

On a sunny day, first pinch the flower gently with your right thumb and index finger, and slowly shake the pollen onto your left hand, then gently dip the stigma of the pistil on the pollinated flower into the pollen.

Item 3

After successful pollination, you need to collect the mature seeds.

The seeds should be collected after the fruit stalk has dried up. At this time, the seeds will automatically crack and can then be harvested.

The harvested seeds must be placed in a dry and ventilated place and dried for a few days until the seeds are dry. Then peel the seeds out of the seed coat and store them in a cool and dry place.

This is done in order to propagate by seed next year.
