How to prune jade tree

How to prune jade tree

1. Shorten the dormancy period

When the jade plant is in dormancy from December to January of the following year, it needs to be pruned. The pruning at this time is mainly short cutting, and the branches should be kept at about 10 to 25 cm. However, attention should be paid to the reasonable length of the branches to make it look good.

When pruning, you should also remove dead branches, diseased branches, etc., so that the entire jade tree will be healthy and beautiful.

2. Prune after flowering

The flowering period of Jade Tree is in late spring and early summer. The flowers are beautiful, but they also need to be pruned after the flowering period.

The time for pruning is within two weeks after the flowers fall, and only 4 to 10 buds should be left during pruning.

3. Winter thinning

Jade tree flowers are afraid of cold, so the growth of jade tree will gradually slow down in the low temperature winter;

From December to February of the following year, consider pruning and thinning out plants that have grown too tall or have dense branches.

You can remove the dry, diseased, insect-infested and injured branches on the plant, and then keep the longer branches to keep the jade plant in a more natural shape, thus achieving the purpose of pruning.

4. Trim and shape

If you like the crown of the jade tree to be round and full, you should cut off the long branches and the dense and crowded branches when pruning, and you can achieve the effect you want;

However, you should pay attention to the proper density of the internal branches. If the plant is old, with a thick trunk and an uneven crown, you can trim it into a stump bonsai shape and cut off some branches and leaves according to your personal habits.

Okay. The above is the method and process of pruning jade plants, you can try it now!
