What fertilizer is best for wheat?

Fertilization is a very important step in high-yield wheat cultivation. In order to cultivate strong wheat seedlings and ensure normal growth of wheat, farmers must choose suitable fertilizers. So what kind of fertilizer is best for wheat? Let’s take a look with the editor below.

1. What kind of fertilizer is best for wheat?

1. Organic fertilizer

It is rich in organic matter, can improve soil structure, increase soil's ability to retain water and fertilizer, and long-term application is beneficial to improving soil fertility. In the early stage of wheat growth, an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer can be applied as base fertilizer to provide a stable nutrient supply for the entire growth period of wheat.

2. Inorganic fertilizer

Mainly refers to chemical fertilizers, which have high nutrient content and quick fertilizer effect, but long-term single use can easily cause soil compaction and nutrient imbalance. Inorganic fertilizers such as nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus fertilizer, and potassium fertilizer should be applied reasonably according to the wheat growth stage and soil test results to meet the nutrient needs of wheat at different growth stages.

3. Compound fertilizer

It combines the advantages of organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer, with comprehensive nutrients and long-lasting fertilizer effect. When choosing compound fertilizer, one should consider whether its nutrient ratio matches the needs of wheat and whether it is suitable for local soil conditions.

4. Microbial fertilizer

Promote soil nutrient transformation through microbial activity, improve soil fertility, and enhance crop resistance. In wheat production, the appropriate use of microbial fertilizers can help improve the soil microecological environment and promote the healthy growth of wheat.

2. Wheat fertilization method

1. Basal tillering fertilizer

Use 1535 kg of high-concentration formula fertilizer + 510 kg of urea + appropriate amount of organic fertilizer per mu. Choose formula fertilizers with nitrogen content ≥ 25% and use them at the recommended lower limit. Formula fertilizers with nitrogen content ≥ 25% are preferred for high-phosphorus and higher-phosphorus soils. Base fertilizer should be applied before the soil is plowed, or mechanically applied at the same time as seed fertilizer. Apply it as deeply as possible. Tillering fertilizer should be applied according to the seedlings and the weather.

2. Jointing and Heading Fertilizer

Use 10-15 kg of urea per mu. For low-potassium soil, use about 15 kg of nitrogen-potassium compound fertilizer per mu. Generally, it is applied from the end of February to the beginning of mid-March depending on the seedlings and the weather, and the latest is in late March.

3. Medium and micro fertilizer

From tillering to the initial heading stage, spray manganese fertilizer, water-soluble silicon fertilizer and other medium and micro fertilizers 1-2 times in combination with disease, insect and weed control.

The above is an introduction to what fertilizers are best for wheat fertilization. When fertilizing wheat, organic fertilizers, inorganic fertilizers, compound fertilizers and microbial fertilizers should be considered comprehensively. Appropriate formula fertilizers should be selected according to different yield levels, and attention should be paid to the coordinated application of trace element fertilizers.
