Flowering period control of Echinacea

Flowering period control of Echinacea

Flowering period of echinacea

The flowering period of Echinacea is mostly from June to July every year. Some artificially cultivated varieties can bloom in May and October every year, and the flowering period can last as long as 1 to 2 months. Basically, the flowering period of Echinacea is very long, which can exceed 60 days, and a single flower can be open for more than 30 days.

Methods for controlling the flowering period of Echinacea

If you want Echinacea to bloom according to the needs of the grower, there are two main methods to adopt when growing it: sowing in stages and pruning in time after flowering. These two methods can extend the flowering period of echinacea and improve its ornamental value.

Staged sowing means choosing different sowing times. If you sow in autumn, you can enjoy the beautiful flowers of echinacea in April and May of the following spring; echinacea sown in early spring can bloom in July and August; echinacea sown in May can bloom in September; and echinacea sown in June can bloom in October. Basically, by changing the sowing time of echinacea, you can change the flowering time, so that you can enjoy the flowers of echinacea in different seasons.

Timely pruning can sometimes make echinacea bloom again. After flowering, cut off the withered flowers of echinacea and strengthen water and fertilizer management so that it can bloom again. Generally, pruning is done after flowering in April and May, so that it can bloom again in July and August. If you prune it after flowering in June, it will bloom again in October.

In addition, spraying some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer solution during the flowering period can make the flowers colorful, and remove dead leaves when necessary after flowering.
