How to propagate ginger flower by division

How to propagate ginger flower by division

Ginger flower division propagation

Generally, division propagation is carried out in spring. First, dig out the underground rhizomes and divide them into several clumps, generally retaining 2 or 3 buds in each. After cutting, they can be directly planted in pots or in the ground. Generally, choose fertile, loose, slightly acidic sandy loam rich in organic matter. It will bloom in summer. Apply sufficient base fertilizer before planting and water it sufficiently after planting. It will generally germinate and grow in about 20-30 days. The suitable temperature during the growth period is between 22℃-28℃. At the same time, top dressing and inter-row cultivation and weeding should be carried out, usually 2-3 times.

Ginger flower care and management

Do not water too much when first planting to avoid rhizome rot. Keep the soil moist during the growing period of the plant. Avoid strong direct sunlight and provide shade in summer to help extend the flowering period. Ginger flowers have fewer diseases and pests, but they are not very cold-resistant, so they need to be well prepared for wintering. In winter, you can also do proper pruning and cut off the stems to promote the sprouting of new branches in the second year. In cold areas, the rhizomes need to be dug out and stored indoors.

After about 3-4 years, the growth conditions and space of newly planted ginger flowers will become crowded and interfere with each other. At this time, they need to be divided and replanted.
