How to propagate Camellia sasanqua by cuttings

Cutting conditions

In the Jiangnan region, cuttings are generally taken from late May to August when the air temperature and humidity are higher. Generally, open-field cuttings are carried out after rain, and before 8 a.m. when there is no rain for a long time. If the number of potted cuttings and ground cuttings is relatively large, it is recommended to choose open-field cuttings. If it is used for garden viewing, it is recommended to use potted cuttings. Choose a place with good air flow, drainage and spacious terrain for open-field cuttings.

Cutting method

Cutting is the main propagation method of Camellia sasanqua. Cuttings are usually carried out in May. Select healthy and strong branches from mother plants that are more than five years old as cuttings. Use scissors to cut off the excess leaves, leaving only two or three leaves. The cutting seedling bed should be shaded, and light should be gradually allowed in in the morning and evening. The cuttings will take root about 20-30 days after cutting, and the seedlings can be potted or transplanted in the second year.

Cutting maintenance

The most suitable environment for the growth of Camellia sasanqua is semi-shade and semi-sun, and it likes shade and humidity. After cuttings of Camellia sasanqua, it needs careful maintenance, and the light, temperature, water and fertilizer must be appropriate. It should be noted that too strong sunlight in summer will burn its leaves, but at the same time it also needs proper light to ensure its healthy growth.

The cutting method of Camellia sasanqua is not complicated. Flower lovers can carefully cut Camellia sasanqua according to the method introduced by the editor!
