How to propagate Phlox

How to propagate Phlox

Growth habit

Phlox likes a high temperature and humid environment, and is not resistant to severe cold. It must have sufficient light during its growth, but should avoid direct sunlight. It is relatively shade-tolerant and drought-tolerant, but not moisture-tolerant.

Cutting propagation

The cutting propagation of Phlox can generally be carried out in spring and autumn, but spring cuttings are more common because the effect of spring cuttings is better. In March and April, use scissors to cut strong branches of Phlox about 10-15 cm long, keep 2-3 leaves at the bottom of the branches, soak the branches in 500ppm indolebutyric acid or No. 1 ABT rooting solution for about ten seconds to promote rooting, and then insert it into the substrate. After cuttings, water them thoroughly and cover them with plastic film to prevent water loss. Keep the temperature within 25-30℃ and provide appropriate light protection. They will generally take root after 20 to 30 days. When the cuttings sprout new buds, they can be transplanted into pots.

Layering propagation

The layering propagation of Phlox is generally carried out in May and June. Select the sturdy branches of Phlox and perform ring peeling. The peeling position is about 20-25 cm from the top. After peeling, wrap the peeled area with mud medicine or peat soil, pinch it into a soil ball, and then wrap it tightly with plastic film, leaving a water inlet on the top. If the stem is too thin to support the soil ball, you can tie the soil ball to a bamboo pole to support it.

The above is the propagation method of Phlox!
