How to propagate Aglaonema

Cutting propagation of Aglaonema truncatum

Cutting propagation of Aglaonema is the most commonly used propagation method. Cutting propagation is carried out in April in spring or in August in autumn.

When taking cuttings in autumn, choose branches that have grown for two years, cut them into 14 cm long cuttings, cut the cuttings at an angle, and then insert the cuttings at an angle into the sand bed. Then moisturize it and cover the sand bed with plastic film, making sure to provide shade.

When taking cuttings in summer, choose new tender branches, cut the branches into cuttings about 10 cm in length, then soak the cuttings in clean water to keep them moist for a period of time. When you see the cuttings are moist, you can take them out of the water. Generally, they can be taken out of the water in about a day, then inserted into the sand bed, watered, and covered the sand bed with plastic film to keep them moist and shaded.

The cuttings taken during these two periods will take root and sprout in about a month. At this time, you should pay attention to weeding and spraying water to keep them moist. After one year of growth, you can transplant them. Please note that they must be transplanted with soil.

The propagation of the ramet of Aglaonema

The division propagation of Aglaonema must be carried out at the same time as the repotting of the Aglaonema.

First, pour out the overgrown plant from the pot, be gentle so as not to damage the roots. After pouring it out, check the roots to see if there are any poorly growing roots. If so, cut them off to ensure normal growth of other roots.

Secondly, cut the trimmed plants into several plants, and then plant each plant in a different pot and place them in a ventilated and cool place for maintenance.

Finally, it is important to note that division propagation should be planted immediately after division to ensure the survival rate. After about 3 weeks of growth, you can start taking normal care of it. It needs to be exposed to the sun frequently to supplement light, and it also needs to be watered to keep it moist, and fertilized to supplement growth nutrients.
