How to spend the summer with roses

Management of Roses in Summer

After the peak flowering period in spring, roses will soon enter the hot and rainy summer. At this time, roses will enter a semi-dormant or dormant state. At this time, management can be strengthened to help the roses survive the summer and rejuvenate them so that they continue to bloom in the summer.

Rose flowers in summer shade ventilation

The temperature is high in summer, and potted roses are easily dry and heated up due to less soil, so they must be cooled. Generally, to cool down, you can place the rose pots in a semi-shaded place such as under a tree, so that the roses are exposed to bright scattered light and keep ventilation.

Give roses plenty of water and fertilizer

The rose is also called the monthly red. It blooms many times, so it needs sufficient water and fertilizer to ensure good growth. In summer, the evaporation and energy consumption of roses are very high, and they grow relatively fast. They may need to be fertilized once every 10 days to make them bloom luxuriantly. Before watering, let the water dry in the sun first, and the temperature should not be too different from the environment.

Spray more water on roses

The temperature is high in summer, and spraying water can help cool down and increase the humidity of the air. It is best to spray water once in the morning and afternoon.

Rose pruning

Roses need to be pruned in summer. After flowering, cutting off the third leaf below the flower can cause it to sprout new branches and bloom earlier. When pruning, you can first cut off the thin and short branches, and then prune the strong branches, which can promote the weak and suppress the strong. When pruning long branches, do not prune them too long, generally no more than one-half. Don't leave too many flowers in each batch to avoid affecting the next blooming.

Diseases and pests of roses

Summer is a season of high temperature and high rainfall, when pests and diseases are more likely to break out, so regular sterilization and disinfection work is necessary, and timely prevention and control of pests and diseases are needed when they are discovered.
