Why does the golden diamond drop its leaves and turn yellow?

The reason why the leaves of the golden diamond turn yellow

Pot soil reasons

Poor soil selection will affect the growth of the golden diamond. When the soil lacks trace elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium, it will cause the leaves to turn yellow.

The potting soil lacks nitrogen: the leaves are small and light yellow in color. The lower leaves turn yellow first, and then the whole plant gradually loses its green color, with the lower part becoming even more yellow.

The potting soil lacks phosphorus: the leaves are curled, the leaf color is dark green, and the veins of the lower leaves are yellowing.

Potassium deficiency in potting soil: The edges of the lower leaves turn brown and are prone to lodging.

Magnesium deficiency in potting soil: the edges and middle of the leaves lose their green color and turn white from bottom to top.

The potting soil lacks iron: the leaves appear burnt brown and dry.

Improper watering

Too much or too little watering can both cause yellowing leaves, but the symptoms are slightly different.

If the golden diamond is watered too much, the young leaves will become dark yellow and dull, the branches will be thin, and the new shoots will grow slowly; if it is watered too little, the leaf tips and edges will dry up, the old leaves will turn yellow and fall off from top to bottom, but the new leaves will grow normally.

Improper lighting

The golden diamond is a shade-loving plant and can grow well with appropriate scattered light. If the light is too strong, the leaves will be burned and turn yellow. If it is kept in a cool place for a long time without light, the plant will grow slowly and turn yellow.

Pests and diseases

The golden diamond is a foliage plant. Diseases and pests mainly harm the leaves, slowing down the growth of the plant, making the leaves dull and lifeless, and in severe cases the entire plant dies.

How to prevent and treat yellowing of golden diamond leaves

Temperature control and humidification

Golden diamond likes a warm and humid environment, and the temperature should be controlled at around 20℃ and not lower than 10℃. At the same time, place it away from heating, air conditioning and cold wind. The indoor humidity should also be relatively high and controlled between 50% and 70%. If it is lower than 50%, the golden diamond will easily have yellow leaves and dry edges. The air humidity can be increased by spraying or sprinkling water.

Shading and fertilization

The golden diamond likes light but avoids strong direct sunlight. It is best to grow it in semi-shade or scattered light conditions. It should not be placed in a shady environment for a long time, otherwise the leaves will easily turn yellow.

The principle of fertilization is to apply small amounts of fertilizer frequently, with nitrogen fertilizer being the main fertilizer.

Proper water control

It is best to water when the surface of the potting soil is dry. It can be kept moist during the high temperature period in summer. If the ambient temperature is below 15℃ in winter, alternating dry and wet watering is required.

Pest control

The main insect pests are red spider mites, which are usually caused by dry air. They can be effectively prevented by spraying water and wiping the leaves frequently. When there are insect pests, special pesticides need to be sprayed for prevention and control, such as trichlorodicofol. Usually, as long as the environment is suitable, all diseases and insect pests will disappear!
