How to Rejuvenate Dahlias

Pruning

When you observe that the color of the leaves or flowers of the dahlia begins to fade, you should take it out of the pot, be gentle and careful, remove the branches that support the stems and flowers, and then cut off the above-ground part, starting from near the ground, leaving only a 3-5 cm base. Be careful when cutting, make sure the cut is flat and don't tear the wound.

Soil replacement

Disinfect a sharp knife, then use it to scrape off a quarter of the potting soil. Then plant the dahlia back into the pot and fill it with potting soil made of leaf mold, pond mud and clean fine river sand in a ratio of 6:3:1. Be sure to mix it evenly. Fill it all the way to the mouth of the pot, then water it thoroughly to allow the newly replaced nutrient soil to sink so that it can be in close contact with the roots.

ventilation

After changing the pot soil of the dahlia, it needs to be moved to a cool and ventilated place. Remember to keep the soil moist during maintenance. After about 10-15 days, new buds will sprout on the base.

Management of Dahlia Rejuvenation

Bud thinning

When the new shoots grow to about 3-4 cm high, they should be placed in a sunny place and then thinned out. Only two strong new shoots should be retained on each base stake, and the others should be removed, leaving about 6-8 new shoots in the pot.

Watering and fertilizing

After thinning out the buds, water them once every 3 to 5 days to provide sufficient water. In addition, nutrients must also be provided. Therefore, you can spray 800 times the solution of Gaomeishi organic humic acid active liquid fertilizer specially made for flowers on the leaves once every half a month or so, until water drips from the leaves.

Pests and diseases

To prevent and control diseases and insect pests, you can choose to spray medicine, such as spraying a mixture of 1000 times of Lorsban and 800 times of methyl thiophanate.

If you use the above method to maintain the dahlia, it will bud and bloom after two or three months, and will gradually recover its vitality.
