How to graft chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum grafting time

The best time to graft chrysanthemums in high temperatures is on a cloudy day, followed by a morning with no wind.

Preparation before chrysanthemum grafting

Watering

Chrysanthemums should be watered two or three days before grafting. The watering areas should be the rootstock and scion mother plant, the purpose is to increase the water content of the rootstock and scion.

Water spray

One or two hours before chrysanthemum grafting, the rootstock and scion mother plant should be sprayed with water. It is important to note that grafting can only begin after all the water on the leaves has evaporated.

Prepare bags

Prepare enough plastic bags, soak the bags completely in water, and use them after grafting.

How to graft chrysanthemum

Cleft grafting method. The scion should be the top of a chrysanthemum seedling that is 5 to 7 cm long, leaving two or three leaves on the top and removing the larger leaves in the lower half. Then use a double-sided knife to cut the scion into a 1.5 cm long wedge. After cutting, hold it in your mouth, being careful to avoid getting it stained with saliva. After that, the rootstock should be cut off from the grafted part. The method is to use a knife to split the rootstock in the middle. The depth should be slightly longer or the same as the cut surface of the scion (1.5~2cm). Insert the scion into the small split opening, align the cambium of the two, wrap the interface tightly with plastic strips from top to bottom, and apply soil on the cross section to achieve a moisturizing effect. Finally, put the prepared plastic bag on it and tie the bag opening. Special reminder: when putting on the plastic bag, be sure to put the scion together with the few wormwood leaves under the interface into the bag.

Management of chrysanthemum after grafting

After chrysanthemums are grafted, shade should be provided in time. If the grafted area of chrysanthemum is small, you can use soaked newspaper or kraft paper and a bamboo pole support to cover all the grafted parts. If the grafting area of chrysanthemums is large, a shade net can be used as a shade tool. If the scion does not lose water and wilt, the shade can be removed after six or seven days of shading. Spray water three or four times a day on sunny days, and at the same time increase the ventilation holes on the plastic bag. When the weather is relatively dry, spray a small amount of water into the plastic bag so that the scion can gradually adapt to the external environment. Once the scion in the plastic bag is found to be wilting or dying, it is necessary to re-graft it in time. The scion begins to grow rapidly after about 20 days. At this time, the plastic strips tied to the scion should be removed in time.

Grafting chrysanthemums is a relatively complicated task. Flower lovers need to complete this task with patience, love and care. I hope flower lovers can graft unique chrysanthemums!
