Sowing at the right time

A year's plan begins with spring. Many people know that spring is the best time for sowing, but the temperature in autumn is moderate. After many flowers are sown in autumn, they will experience a rest in winter and then bloom brilliantly in spring.

Autumn is suitable for sowing biennial or perennial cultivated flowers, such as snapdragon, dianthus, cineraria, cyclamen, etc. In addition, common gerbera, delphinium, begonia, etc. are very suitable for sowing in autumn.

Enter the room at the right time

After the Cold Dew in northern regions, the temperature drops and there will be early frosts in the morning and evening. It is necessary to move the flowers and plants indoors gradually to overwinter according to their cold resistance to avoid the cold. The specific time to enter the room varies depending on the flower. For most flowers, the weather in autumn is changeable, with sudden changes in temperature, so don't rush to bring them indoors.

Bringing flowers indoors too early will affect the accumulation of nutrients and will be detrimental to the growth and development of the plants in the coming year. Therefore, if you don't suffer from cold, you can enter the room a little later.

Pruning and shaping

After autumn, when the temperature is 20 degrees Celsius, most flowers will sprout buds and branches. You can set up a frame according to the shape and growth of the plant, retain some of the branches, and cut off the rest to reduce nutrient consumption.

For the newly grown and retained tender branches, they should be pinched in time to allow the branches to grow quickly before winter comes. Chrysanthemum, dahlia, rose, jasmine, etc., after these flowers bud in autumn, when the buds grow to a certain size, only the top bud is retained and the rest are all removed.

Proper amount of water and fertilizer

As autumn approaches, many flowers change their decadent appearance and begin to grow faster, which requires sufficient nutrients. But there are also some tips for fertilizing. For annual autumn chrysanthemum, osmanthus, camellia and azalea, top dressing is needed 2 to 3 times throughout the autumn, with phosphorus fertilizer being the main fertilizer. For roses, Milan, jasmine and other plants that bloom multiple times a year, top dressing should be done 3 to 4 times. This ensures that it continues to bloom.

Matters Needing Attention in Autumn Potted Flower Care

Repotting

After autumn, it is the best time to repot many flowers. The flowerpot is small and the roots of the flowers are densely distributed around the pot wall. You can repot and change the soil, or change to a larger pot to promote its growth. At the same time, you can do appropriate pruning to cut off dead branches and leaves to improve the ornamental value of potted flowers.

Fill Light

The light intensity decreases in autumn, and some light-loving flowers cannot adapt quickly and need timely supplementary lighting. In the morning and evening, move the plant to a sunny location to increase the length of daylight (for summer). While supplementing light, you can apply fertilizer mainly composed of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium combined with nitrogen fertilizer 1 to 2 times. This will make the plants grow stronger and improve their cold resistance after winter.

Seed Collection

The seeds of many flowers will mature after mid-autumn and need to be harvested in time. After growing flowers for so many years, you only know how to buy seeds. Now you can grow your own flowers and be self-sufficient. After harvesting seeds of impatiens, morning glory, morning glory, etc. (small wild flowers commonly seen on the roadside), remove the impurities, put them into cloth bags and store them in a ventilated place. Some seeds can be harvested and planted immediately. Harvest seeds and sow hope. You can plant flowers all over your home without spending money on seeds!
