Wild leek cultivation methods and precautions

Wild leek cultivation methods and precautions

Farming methods

Fertilization

The root system of wild leek is shallow and it grows vigorously above ground, so it is suitable to choose fertile, loose soil with strong water retention capacity. Apply sufficient soil and fertilizer or well-rotted manure before planting.

Post-planting management

Water frequently after planting to keep the soil moist. Combine watering with multiple top dressings, mostly quick-acting nitrogen fertilizers.

Harvest

Wild leeks are mainly harvested from young leaves, which should be harvested when most of the leaves of the plant have grown to normal size. Harvesting should be timely to ensure the quality of the young leaves. Generally, it is harvested every 20-30 days, and the base of the leaves is cut 1-2 cm above the ground.

The flower stalks can be harvested in summer and the rhizomes can be collected in autumn and winter.

Reproduction method

Reproduction

The main method of reproduction of wild leek is division.

When the plant has more than 3 tillers, it can be propagated by division, which can usually be done in spring.

In other seasons, when dividing the plants, you should pay attention to shade and moisturize them. You can cover them with shade nets and water them in time. The spacing between rows and plants for transplanting is 20-30 cm × 30 cm.

Softening cultivation

Wild leeks can not only be harvested as green chives, but can also be cultivated for softening. Generally, it is more suitable to use 2-3 year old wild leeks that are strong and have a large number of tillers for softening cultivation.

When the plants grow to be vigorous and strong, the leeks are harvested and softened. Softening cultivation often uses opaque materials such as bamboo tubes and tile tubes. Bamboo tubes and tile tubes are not easy to conduct heat. This method is more suitable for the hot and rainy seasons in South China.

Generally, there are hole covers on the tile tube. The holes are covered to block light during the day and opened at night to facilitate ventilation, reduce humidity and prevent rot. In spring, summer and autumn, the crops can be harvested after 7-10 days, and in winter and early spring, they can be harvested after 10-15 days.
