Passion fruit propagation method: layering method

Layering propagation is a type of asexual propagation and is best carried out in February and March in spring.

It is a propagation method in which the branches on the mother plant are pressed into the soil or wrapped with soil or other materials to form adventitious roots, and then the branches above the adventitious roots are separated from the mother plant to form an independent new plant.

When layering, ring peeling can be performed to interrupt the downward transport of organic matter such as sugars, auxins and other substances from the upper ends of leaves and branches, so that these substances accumulate in the upper part of the treatment for use during rooting. This method is simple, grows fast, and takes a short time for seedlings to form.

After planting passion fruit, in order to achieve early fruiting and early harvesting, in addition to proper water and fertilizer management, the passion fruit branches should be promptly guided to climb up the growth racks with bamboo or wooden strips, and the branches on the vines should be promptly removed to reduce unnecessary nutrient loss, so that a reasonable and productive tree shape can be formed as soon as possible, which is conducive to early fruiting and early production.

How to propagate passion fruit: sowing method

Seed propagation can be carried out all year round, but spring and autumn are the best times.

Generally, plants that are healthy and healthy, free of pests and diseases, and have high and stable yields are chosen as mother plants. The fruits that are well-shaped, slightly heavy, and fully ripe are collected, the seeds are taken out, the residue is washed off, and they are dried before sowing.

When sowing, stir one kilogram of seeds with 10 to 20 grams of carbendazim for about 20 minutes, and then sprinkle the seeds evenly on the seedbed.

After sowing, cover the seedbed with a thin layer of grass and water it thoroughly.

After sowing, water should be applied according to weather conditions. Spray water once every morning and evening on sunny days. The seeds will begin to emerge after about half a month.

When the emergence rate of seedlings reaches more than 80%, top dressing should be applied in time. Dilute water fertilizer or dilute urea solution can be used to cultivate strong seedlings. Transplant the seedlings when they grow 4 true leaves.

Although the sowing method is relatively simple, the seedlings propagated by seeds have stronger root systems and stronger resistance to adversity, but they vary greatly, bear fruit later, have unstable yields, and have uneven fruit sizes.
