Cutting propagation of Zebra Dieffenbachia

Cutting propagation of Zebra Dieffenbachia

1. Matrix selection

If you want to do cutting propagation well, you must first choose the right substrate. When it is propagated through cuttings, a substrate made of nutrient soil, river sand, peat soil, etc. is usually used. But sometimes it is difficult to prepare this ideal substrate when doing cuttings at home. It doesn’t matter, you can use some medium-coarse river sand, but you must rinse it several times with clean water before use, and then it can be used for cuttings.

2. Cutting selection

When choosing cuttings, we usually cut the stems into sections with a length of approximately 5 to 8 cm. And when cutting, make sure each segment has more than three leaf nodes. In addition to cutting into small pieces, you can also use the top tips as cuttings, which is also easy to survive.

3. Cutting method

After the cuttings are prepared, we can insert them into the substrate. When inserting, do not insert them too deep, just insert them shallowly. This will also help them survive, and then you can carry out normal maintenance.

4. Post-maintenance

1. Temperature

It is easiest to take root when the temperature is between 18 and 25 degrees. If it is below 18 degrees, the cuttings will grow very slowly. It also cannot be higher than 25 degrees. If it is higher than this temperature, the cut ends of the cuttings may become infected and rot. The higher the temperature, the more severe the rot will be. So try to keep the temperature within this range.

2. Humidity

After cuttings, it is necessary to create a suitable humidity environment for the cuttings. Generally, a humidity between 75% and 85% is most suitable. If it does not reach this range, we can spray it to increase the humidity, 1 to 3 times a day. If it is a sunny day, you can spray more often. If it is a rainy day or the temperature is low, you can spray less.

3. Lighting

Cutting propagation cannot tolerate a small amount of light, but the light cannot be too strong, because if it is too strong, the temperature inside the cuttings will rise and the water will be consumed quickly, which will be detrimental to the life of the cuttings. So we need to block out some of the sunlight appropriately.

4. Put it in the basin

After the cuttings have taken root, we need to plant them in pots so that they can grow stronger. After potting it, you can't be careless. You must maintain good temperature and humidity so that it can grow into a plant as soon as possible.
