Anthurium cultivation and reproduction methods

Anthurium cultivation and reproduction methods

Anthurium is widely loved for its bright and eye-catching flowers. There are many ways to propagate Anthurium, including sowing, cuttings and division, among which division is the most commonly used method with the highest success rate. The following are the cultivation and reproduction methods of Anthurium.

1. Breeding Methods

1. Seeding method

When the anthurium fruit is ripe, the seeds can be taken out or purchased in the market. Mix peat soil and perlite in a ratio of 6:4 and fill it into the container as culture soil. The sowing depth should be controlled at 0.5-0.8 cm, water thoroughly and place in a cool and ventilated place. After about 14-20 days, when the seeds germinate, they can be transplanted into new pots and kept in a cool place for a week, then switched to normal maintenance.

2. Cutting method

Choose healthy and sturdy anthurium branches and cut them into 8-15 cm lengths. Remove excess leaves, leaving only 1-2 tender leaves at the top, and apply rooting powder to the wound. Plant the cuttings in sandy soil, keep it moist, place it in a cool and ventilated place, and transplant it after it takes root.

3. Division method

Select side shoots with independent root systems from the anthurium mother plant, cut them off with scissors and wash them. Apply rooting powder and dry in a cool place. Prepare a slightly acidic culture soil mixed with leaf mold, garden soil and vermiculite. Plant the side buds into the culture soil and then water and fertilize normally after 2-3 days.

2. Breeding methods

1. Soil permeability

Avoid using garden soil directly, and choose soil with good air permeability, such as a mixture of peat soil pellets, peanut shells , river sand or coal slag pellets. The roots of Anthurium need loose soil to grow healthily. Avoid using pots that are too small or too short to ensure that the roots have enough space.

2. Avoid exposure to the sun

Although Anthurium is a flowering plant, it should be avoided from direct sunlight. When the leaves are green, they should not be placed directly in the sun to prevent them from turning yellow. It should be placed in diffuse light or bright place, such as sunlight before 9 o'clock in the morning, or in an environment with 50%-70% shade.

3. Water and fertilizer management

Keep the soil moist and water thoroughly when the soil surface is dry. Choose a fertilizer with high phosphorus content, such as Huaduoduo No. 2, and apply it every 10-15 days. Be careful not to overdose.

4. Ensure ventilation

When growing Anthurium indoors, you should pay attention to ventilation, especially after watering, you should open the windows or use electric fans to accelerate the evaporation of soil moisture. Good ventilation helps prevent root rot and blackening of leaves.

5. Soil acidification

Anthurium prefers acidic soil. Regularly use diluted rice vinegar and ferrous sulfate solution to water it to keep the soil acidic and promote iron absorption.

The above is an introduction to the cultivation and reproduction methods of Anthurium. If you master the key points, the maintenance of Anthurium will become simple. The leaves will grow green, the roots will develop, and the flowers will bloom.
