Goose breeding technology and management

Goose breeding technology and management

Goose is a kind of poultry that mainly feeds on grass. It is widely raised because of its strong adaptability and low breeding cost. They can use a variety of natural resources for grazing, such as straw, wheat stubble fields, hillsides, grasslands and woodlands , which makes goose farming a good development prospect in rural areas. At present, goose breeding has become quite common in rural areas of my country. It is welcomed by many farmers because of its high economic benefits and low investment. Let’s learn about goose breeding techniques and management.

1. Goose house construction

Choose a site with elevated terrain and good drainage, preferably facing south or southeast, with sandy loam preferred. Existing old houses can be renovated or simple sheds can be built, and bamboo fences or coarse nets can be used for enclosure to ensure the safety of feed .

2. Group management

Implement a strategy of separating the strong from the weak, and raise the weaker or sick goslings separately to avoid injuries caused by competition. Sick chicks are given special treatment and careful care. The goslings are grouped for the first time according to their hatching time and physical condition, and appropriate heat preservation, drinking water and feeding time are provided.

3. Feeding

Feeding goslings: Start feeding them with cold boiled water 24 hours after hatching, 2-3 times a day. At 3-4 days old, provide a mixture of water-soaked rice and shredded green material, 3-5 times a day.

Feeding of adult geese: Feed them once in the morning, noon and evening every day, and graze them once in the morning and afternoon. Each goose is fed 25 grams of grains in the morning and evening, and consumes 750-1000 grams of grass and 150-175 grams of feed every day. Provide plenty of water after each feeding.

4. Health and epidemic prevention

Implement health and epidemic prevention measures regularly and strictly abide by the epidemic prevention system. Disinfection facilities are set up at the entrance of the farm to disinfect people and vehicles coming in and out. Clean and disinfect feed and water utensils regularly every day, using appropriate disinfectants.

5. Breeding at the right time

Geese mate mostly in water, with morning and evening being their active periods. During the egg-laying season, the watering and breeding time should be extended in the morning and evening to increase the breeding opportunities of the geese. For geese kept in sheds, water should be released every morning and evening to promote mating behavior and increase fertilization rate.

The above is an introduction to the key points of goose breeding technology. You can pay attention to the health management of geese from the gosling stage. The management focus is different for geese of different ages.
