The propagation method and cultivation techniques of Dripping Guanyin

The weeping angel , as a popular indoor ornamental plant, is known for its large heart-shaped leaves and beautiful shape. It has strong vitality and can easily reproduce itself. Let’s learn about the propagation methods and cultivation techniques of the weeping angel.

1. Breeding Methods

1. Cutting method

Cutting is the most commonly used method for propagating the weeping angel because of its high survival rate and simple operation. Spring and autumn are the best time for cuttings, and the mild climate helps the plants survive. Select healthy branches, cut them into 15 cm lengths, and soak them in rooting powder solution to promote rooting. Insert the treated cuttings into moist sandy soil, place them in a cool and ventilated place, water them daily, and new roots will begin to grow in about a week.

2. Division method

The division method is suitable for the weeping angel because it can easily grow multiple small branches. Division is carried out in summer or autumn, as the survival rate of division is higher in these two seasons. Cut off the small branches from the mother plant and transplant them into a new pot. After half a month, they will adapt to the new environment and start growing.

3. Seeding method

The seeding method is feasible in theory, but is rarely used in practice. Sow in spring, the seeds will germinate about half a month after sowing. The sowing method is not the first choice because seeds are difficult to obtain and grow slowly. It is usually recommended to use cuttings or division. Cuttings are recommended for soil cultivation, while division can be used for hydroponics.

2. Breeding methods

1. Breeding temperature

20-25℃ is the most suitable growth temperature for the weeping angel. When the room temperature is below 18℃, the weeping angel will enter a dormant state. It prefers a warm, humid and semi-shaded environment. Especially in summer, it needs to be placed in a semi-shaded and ventilated place, and sprayed with water frequently to maintain air humidity. It has weak cold resistance and should be moved indoors in autumn and winter.

2. Apply fertilizer correctly

The recommended fertilization cycle is once a month, with topdressing every two weeks. Apply dilute liquid fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, and avoid direct contact of fertilizer water with leaf sheaths to prevent rot. Applying ferrous sulfate promotes large, green leaves. Avoid lack of fertilizer to prevent the stems from drying out.

3. Water at the right time

Increase watering frequency in summer, but avoid standing water that can cause stem rot. Control watering in winter, the weeping angel will enter a dormant period, and stop fertilizing.

4. Lighting issues

Avoid direct sunlight, especially when the leaves are drooping, which may be a sign of fertilizer deficiency and you need to add liquid fertilizer. During the flowering period, 3-5 hours of sunlight per day must be ensured to avoid affecting the beauty of the flowers.

5. Summer maintenance

In summer, the flower pots should be placed in a ventilated area indoors without direct sunlight. Spray water frequently to increase air humidity, lower leaf temperature and keep leaves clean. Control the amount of water you use to avoid tuber rot.

Although the weeping angel plant is ornamental, the white juice in its stem is poisonous and should be avoided, especially if ingested or in contact with the eyes. Families with children should plant with caution to reduce unnecessary risks.
