How to sow sweet alyssum

How to sow sweet alyssum

Sowing time

Since sweet sweet bulb is afraid of heat during the growing period and the most suitable temperature for sowing is 15℃-20℃, it is generally sown in autumn after mid-to-late September.

Sowing preparation

The substrate can be nutrient soil, river sand, peat soil, etc. The substrate must be disinfected before sowing. The best way is to heat it in a pot at high temperature to inhibit the occurrence of diseases and pests.

To germinate the seeds first, soak them in warm water for 12-24 hours until the seeds absorb water and swell.

Sowing steps

For tiny seeds that are difficult to pick up with your hands or other tools, you can wet one end of a toothpick with water, place the seeds one by one on the surface of the substrate, and then cover the substrate with a thickness of about 1 cm, press it down slightly, and then put the sowing pot into the water. The depth of the water should be 1/2-2/3 of the height of the pot, and let the water slowly soak up.

The appropriate temperature for sweet sweet bulb to germinate is 20℃. Generally, seedlings will emerge in 5-10 days, and they can be transplanted into pots when they have 3-4 true leaves.

Post-sowing management

After sowing in autumn, if there is a cold wave and low temperatures, you can wrap the flower pots with plastic film to help keep warm and moisturize.

After the seedlings emerge from the soil, the film should be removed in time and the seedlings should be exposed to sunlight before 9:30 in the morning or after 3:30 in the afternoon, otherwise the seedlings will grow very weakly.

After most of the seeds have emerged, they need to be thinned out appropriately, and the diseased and unhealthy seedlings need to be pulled out so that the remaining seedlings have a certain amount of space between each other.

When most of the seedlings have grown 3 or more leaves, they can be transplanted into pots.
