How to propagate dogtooth flower by cuttings

Time for cuttings of dogtooth flower

The propagation of Dogtooth Flower depends on cuttings. If the flowers are grown in a greenhouse, cuttings can be done all year round. If grown outdoors, it is best to choose June to July for cuttings.

Preparation before cutting of dogtooth flower

The best medium for cuttings is loose, fertile, well-drained acidic soil, preferably vermiculite, or ordinary garden soil or pond mud.

The cuttings need to be selected from the one-year-old strong dogtooth vine, preferably a healthy mother plant with good growth and no diseases or pests.

The cuttings are generally cut into 8-12 cm pieces. After cutting them with a knife, apply carbendazim to the cut area for sterilization and disinfection, then place them in a ventilated and cool place to dry.

The process of dogtooth flower cuttings

After the cuttings are dried, insert them directly into the prepared substrate, then water them once, maintain the humidity and temperature of the surrounding air, and place the cuttings in a cool place.

The cuttings will take root in about two weeks.

Maintenance of Dogtooth Flower after Cutting

Normally, the soil should be kept moist and watered before it dries out. In summer, water should be sprayed around frequently to increase the air humidity.

The management of fertilizer and water cultivation is extensive. Generally, fertilizer is applied once a month. After the cuttings grow normally, compound fertilizer and manure water are applied alternately every 7-10 days from May to September.

The temperature around the cuttings should be controlled above 10 degrees Celsius and not lower than 0 degrees Celsius.

After the cuttings are planted, move them to a sunny place for maintenance. However, the temperature in summer is too high and the sunlight is too strong, so the dogtooth flower needs to be shaded.
