What to do if you overwater your plants

Overwatering plants

How to judge whether the plants have been watered too much can be done by looking at the color of the soil in the pot. If the color is darker and the soil feels very rotten when you poke it with your hand, then it means that you have watered too much.

For potted plants, if you water them too much, there will be no big problem as long as you deal with it in time. The way to deal with it is to drain the excess water immediately, loosen the soil to facilitate water evaporation, and then put them in a ventilated and cool place and wait for a few days.

Will overwatering kill plants?

Plants will die if they are watered too much, because the growth of plants depends on the breathing of the roots. When too much water is given, water will accumulate in the pot, and the roots of the plants will be soaked in water, unable to breathe normally. Over time, they will rot, and in severe cases, they will die.

Plant watering tips

1. There is no specific standard for how much water to water the plants at one time. Usually, no matter when you water the plants, the soil should be watered thoroughly, especially in summer. Do not water halfway, otherwise it will affect the plant roots' absorption of water.

2. The watering frequency of different types of plants is different. Usually, herbaceous plants have more leaves and water evaporates quickly, so the watering frequency can be higher. If it is a woody plant, its roots are well developed, so the watering frequency should also be higher. Some succulents do not require much water, so the watering frequency can be lower.

3. Usually, when watering plants, we choose to use clean water. If it is tap water at home, you need to leave it for a few days before watering. In addition, watering with rice water is also a good choice, which can help the plants grow vigorously.
