How to grow Clivia in the south

Soil requirements

The best potting soil for cultivating Clivia is forest leaf mold mixed with a certain proportion of coarse sand. This kind of potting soil is fertile and loose, has good air permeability and water permeability, and is beneficial for root growth. In places where there is a lack of such pots, soil can be taken from local areas.

For example, in the Guangzhou area, pond mud, broken bricks and charcoal can be used as potting soil for cultivation, and the effect is very good. However, no matter what kind of pot is used, it should have strong air permeability and water permeability.

Temperature requirements

Compared with the north, the south has a favorable condition for cultivating Clivia, which is the high temperature. In places where the minimum temperature is 5℃ to 0℃, it can not only be planted in potted plants indoors, but also cultivated outdoors in the courtyard. In winter, there is no need to heat the Clivia like in the Northeast.

Especially in the southern coastal areas, the natural conditions are better, the air is humid, the climate is pleasant, there is no severe cold in winter and no scorching heat in summer, which is very suitable for the growth of Clivia. ,

Fertilization method

Clivia is a fertilizer-loving flower, so fertilizing should be based on the principle of using local materials. According to the growth needs of the Clivia plant, sufficient nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium fertilizers and other trace elements can be supplied to it.

Fertilization should be mainly plant fertilizer, such as peanut cake, soybean cake, sesame paste residue, etc., and animal fertilizer should be used as little as possible to keep the leaf color fresh and tender.

Watering method

When cultivating Clivia in areas south of Jiangxi, it is necessary to create a suitable growth environment for it in summer. It is best to set up air conditioning to cool the indoor potted plants. If there is no air conditioning equipment, you can place them in a ventilated place indoors, spray water on the flowers and leaves every day, and water the potting soil thoroughly every 3-5 days. This will keep the flowers and leaves fresh and prevent root rot due to water loss.

For open-air cultivation, set up a shade shed during the hot season to allow the plant to receive scattered light. At the same time, pay attention to increasing the environmental humidity to avoid plant damage due to dry environment.
