How to care for snapdragon during its flowering period

When does snapdragon bloom?

Snapdragon is generally suitable for sowing in late August or September, and will bloom in April or May of the following year.

When raising seedlings in a cold bed in early spring or sowing in spring and summer, it can bloom in June-July or September-October. Of course, the growth in this case will not be better than autumn sowing, and the flowering period will be shorter. Generally speaking, if you sow snapdragon seeds in autumn, it will bloom the following year. After a short pruning, it will continue to bloom until late autumn, and the flowers are very beautiful.

In addition, those used as cut flowers in winter are often sown in late summer, cultivated in the open field, and moved into the greenhouse in the cool autumn. The temperature in autumn and winter is maintained at 22 degrees Celsius during the day and above 10 degrees Celsius at night, and they can bloom in December.

How to care for snapdragon during its flowering period

Fertilization: Fertilize once every half a month. You can choose Huiyou or special fertilizer for potted flowers. Do not apply nitrogen fertilizer during the bud formation period as it may cause excessive growth.

Watering: During the flowering period, prevent the soil from being too dry or too wet. Just keep the soil in the pot moist, but do not allow water to accumulate. You can spray water mist around the plant to keep the branches bright and moist.

Pruning: After flowering, you can cut off the above-ground part and water it thoroughly. New branches will sprout after a week. Apply thin liquid fertilizer every ten days or so until flower buds form. Or you can top the plant after the flowers bloom, and new branches will sprout and bloom continuously, which is very beautiful.

Cut flowers: Snapdragon cut flowers are not resistant to squeezing, but if they are picked too early, the buds will not open easily. Therefore, they must be picked when 2-3 flowers have opened at the base of the inflorescence and the upper buds are just beginning to bloom. After harvesting, the cut flowers are graded according to flower color, plant height, and flower spike length, with 10 to 20 branches in a bundle.
