How to safely overwinter the creeping grass

Winter form of creeping sedge

It is normal for the leaves of creeping grass to wither in early winter. It will sprout small buds and grow new branches next year. But it will take longer. If protective measures are taken, the creeping grass will quickly turn green in the spring of next year and become a beautiful landscape.

Precautions for wintering of creeping lily

Watering: After entering winter, the creeping grass enters a dormant period and does not absorb much water or nutrients, so do not water it at this time.

On the contrary, you should water the creeping grass sufficiently before winter comes, so that it can retain a bit of autumn warmth in the cold winter and survive the winter safely.

Covering soil: In northern areas, creeping grass needs to be covered with soil to protect it from the cold, or a layer of grass mat should be laid on it. For plants to keep out the cold in the north, straw mats seem to be more useful. Flower lovers can try it.

Light treatment: Although the winter sun is not very warm, it is still better to expose it to the sun occasionally. Since the creeping sedge is in its dormant period at this time, it is not a bad idea to expose it to less sunlight. It is better to maintain it at a suitable indoor temperature.

Fertilization: Creeping grass is dormant in winter, so it does not need too much nutrient supply. The supply of water and fertilizer should be controlled to avoid root rot.

Cut off the branches directly: Flower lovers who are afraid of troubles such as watering, fertilizing, covering straw mats, etc. can directly cut off the branches of the plant in November , leaving only the roots of the plant in the pot, and new branches will sprout next year.

Isn’t it convenient to just leave it in the pot soil to overwinter? Anyway, you don't have to worry about the leaves and branches withering or shrinking. Although it is a bit simple and crude, it is practical!
