How to propagate creeping grass

sowing

Creeping grass is a foliage plant with long branches covered with leaves larger than fingernails, which is very beautiful. The creeping sedge will also bloom and bear fruit! It blooms in July and August, and the seeds are harvested in September and October. After the seeds have dried, pack them in newspaper or a sealed box. Sow seeds next spring.

The seedlings are relatively fragile and tender, so they need to be carefully cared for. Keep away from dogs and cats, otherwise they will be chewed. Silly dogs and cute cats don’t care how much effort you put into sowing seeds.

Branch cuttings

We don't care how fragile the branches that were broken by the wind are. What you need to do now is not to abandon it, but to plant it in a flowerpot so that it can grow into a beautiful creeping grass next year. The soil in the pot should be slightly moist, and a little base fertilizer should be added appropriately. It is best to use green natural fertilizer, but it must be a small amount, otherwise the roots will be burned before they grow well.

Layering propagation

I was so envious when I saw my flower lover’s creeping grass growing out of the pot. But we can do it easily!

When growing creeping grass, choose a slightly larger flowerpot. When the branches of the mother plant of the creeping calamus grow to 15-20 cm, it can be propagated by layering. Press the mature and healthy branches into the pot and cover them with soil. You can use some small stones to press them down. On the one hand, it protects the branches from being blown away, and on the other hand, it speeds up the rooting of the branches, allowing them to contact the soil with greater force and absorb more water.

Division

The division propagation of creeping grass should be carried out in early spring. Cuttings can be carried out in spring and autumn.

Select healthy seedlings and pull them out gently, with or without soil. Bury the seedlings shallowly in the prepared potting soil. Water sufficiently and keep the temperature at 20-25 degrees Celsius. Flower lovers in the north can do it in late spring, when the temperature is slightly higher, and then divide the plants, which will have a higher survival rate.
