Tips for watering and fertilizing potted bamboo palm

Fertilization tips

Apply base fertilizer

The pot of bamboo palm potted plants is generally changed every two years. During this period, it is necessary to ensure that there are enough nutrients in the potting soil to supply the growth of bamboo palm. Base fertilizer is essential. When repotting every year, add cake fertilizer to the soil and stir evenly, or add some slow-release fertilizer. If the base fertilizer is applied well, the fertilization cycle can be appropriately extended during the subsequent maintenance process.

Fertilization frequency

It is generally required to apply fertilizer once every 15 to 20 days, either by root irrigation or granular fertilizer. Spray foliar fertilizer once every 10 to 15 days, alternating between these two methods.

Fertilization method

Fertilizing of bamboo palm should follow the principle of applying small amounts multiple times and thin fertilizers frequently. Choose organic fertilizers and high-efficiency phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and appropriately supplement trace elements. 15~20 days, suitable for once-corroded cake fertilizer or rapeseed cake fertilizer, 20~30g per pot, a small amount of ferrous sulfate 5g.

You can also spray the leaves with 800 times the solution of Gaomeishi organic humic acid active liquid fertilizer for flowers every 10 to 15 days, evenly spray all the leaves until water droplets begin to drip down.

Watering Tips

Watering frequency

Palm bamboo grows quickly, has many leaves, and requires a lot of water. During the growing period, ensure sufficient water and keep the soil in the pot relatively moist. Avoid severe water shortage or the soil in the pot drying out and cracking. Once the roots are damaged, it takes a long time to recover. Generally, water the plant once every 2 to 3 days, with about 2 to 3 kilograms of water per pot, allowing the water to fully soak the soil in the pot without accumulating water.

Water spray

The transpiration of bamboo palm leaves is strong. In the hot summer season and windy spring and winter weather, it is important to replenish water in time. You can spray water on the leaves appropriately, wet all the leaves evenly, until there are water droplets dripping down.

And increase the air humidity around the potted bamboo palm to prevent dry weather from damaging the leaves. Spray water at least 2 to 3 times a day.

In short, the bamboo palm needs to be watered more frequently during the growing period from May to September to keep the soil moist, rather wet than dry, but water cannot accumulate otherwise the roots will easily rot.
