How to breed Jiyulu

sowing

The plant needs artificial pollination to produce seeds. Pollination is usually carried out in the morning when the weather is clear. Choose two plants of the plant that are blooming at the same time. The sample requires a compact plant shape and full leaves.

When pollinating, remove the petals and smear the pollen on the stigma of another flower. You can also remove the pollen the day before and pollinate the next morning. The success rate is relatively high. After the plant has set seeds, you can sow them.

When sowing, the soil should be mixed with 3 parts of vermiculite and 2 parts of leaf mold or peat soil. It is best to treat the soil with high temperature first to prevent the presence of pathogens.

Cover with glass after sowing. Seedlings will emerge in about 3 weeks. Remove the glass after emergence. Make sure to keep air circulating and do not let the soil become too dry.

Division

Division can be combined with repotting. During the growing season, dig out the young plants next to the mother plant of Jiyulu, with or without roots. Those with roots can be planted directly, while those without roots need to be left in the air for a day or two and then planted after the wounds are dry.

New plants should not be watered too much to avoid causing plant rot.

Cuttings

Most of the plant is buried in the soil, and young shoots will grow in the lower leaf axils. When the young shoots grow to 2 or 3 centimeters, take them down and let them air-dry for 2-3 days. After the wounds are dry, they are inserted into the culture soil.

Keep the soil semi-dry after cuttings, and new roots will grow after two or three weeks.

Leaf cuttings

Choose plump and strong leaves from the plant and insert them into a well-drained substrate such as vermiculite or coarse sand during the growing season.

After planting, keep the soil in the flowerpot slightly moist so that the base of the leaves can easily take root and grow new shoots. Wait until the new shoots grow up before transplanting.
