How to grow orchids in autumn

Typhoon protection

Early autumn is a typhoon-prone season, so be sure to make windproof preparations and don't take it lightly. When caring for the orchid at home, be sure to close the doors and windows. When caring for the orchid outdoors, be sure to check the orchid shed to avoid collapse due to strong winds.

Shade and sun protection

The climate changes greatly in autumn. Some people say that early autumn is like summer, and late autumn is like winter. The weather in early autumn is relatively hot, the sunlight is slightly stronger, and when the weather is clear, it is no different from summer.

Therefore, shade is still necessary. The shade net should not be removed in early autumn or moved at will.

Prevent leaf tips from drying out

Autumn is the peak season for orchid diseases and pests, and the damage is much greater than in summer, so disease and pest prevention and control is of top priority. Spray fungicides regularly, ventilate the area, and cut off dry leaf tips in time.

Water in time to prevent dryness and wetness

The autumn wind blows and the dust flies, which indicates that the autumn climate is mainly dry, so the surface of the orchid pot dries quickly at this time. Especially for orchids planted in clay pots and large-grained planting materials, they should be watered in time to prevent dehydration and drying. However, for strong grasses, water control can be used to promote flowering.

Apply fertilizer at the right time

When the temperature drops below 30℃ in autumn, you can consider applying some fertilizer, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and you can also add some organic fertilizers. Appropriately reduce the content of nitrogen fertilizers, and apply fertilizers in small amounts frequently.
