How to prune Xanthoceras sorbifolia trees

How to prune Xanthoceras sorbifolia trees

1. Pruning branches

The main time for pruning is in winter, when the leaves fall naturally, and until the next year's sprouting. The main principle of pruning branches is to remove weak and frail branches and leave thick and strong branches. Observe the condition of the entire plant and remove the dead and yellow branches first, and do not leave them on. If the overlapping distribution is dense, remove some of it and do not allow it to grow continuously. During the growth process, gradually remove the uncoordinated and unsatisfactory branches, and finally make sure to leave the thick branches.

2. Plastic Sculpting

Regarding pruning for shaping, it is mainly carried out according to two types of tree shapes.

1. Clump-like tree shape: This type is suitable for short trees and can adapt to windy places. Annual pruning requires removing old branches, leaving new branches, and removing weak branches to ensure air permeability and light transmission, which promotes the healthy growth of the tree. It is also necessary to deal with withered branches and crossed branches, which is also helpful for yield.

2. Tree shape: This type is suitable for flat, windless areas. First, determine the shape of the tree. Based on the shape, you can trim it into a flag shape, spindle shape, cup shape, trunk layered shape, etc.
