How to propagate Haworthia striata

How to propagate Haworthia striata

Propagation by division

The best time for division is early spring, February or March, after the soil thaws and the temperature rises.

Remove the mother plant from the pot, shake off excess soil, separate the tangled roots as much as possible, and trim old and diseased roots.

Use a sharp knife to separate the plants. Each separated plant should have roots and its leaves should be properly trimmed to facilitate the survival of the divided plants.

Soak the cut plants in a solution of thiophanate-methyl for 5 minutes, take them out and dry them, then plant them in pots. Or you can use Benomyl to irrigate the roots after potting and then maintain it normally.

Leaf cutting propagation

Successful leaf cutting propagation is when a new plant grows from one leaf.

When transplanting, remove the soil at the bottom of the plant and select a complete leaf with part of the stem tissue.

Apply rooting powder on the leaves and dry them in a cool place.

Then place the leaves in moist soil in a warm, shaded location and, with luck, they will take root and form small plants.

Side shoot propagation

Under certain conditions, Haworthia will grow many side buds, which can be separated from the mother plant and then planted directly in the soil.

After the side buds are removed, there will be a wound. Apply rooting powder and place it in a cool place for 1 to 2 days before planting.

Water carefully to keep the soil moist until the lateral shoots have rooted.
