How to cultivate tiger orchid

Soil and Water Requirements

The soil for potting should be a mixture of leaf mold, coarse sand and peat. Fertilizer should be applied during the plant's growth period, once every ten days, and the amount of fertilizer should not be too concentrated or excessive. In summer and autumn, when the soil in the pot is dry, water it in time and water it thoroughly. In winter, the tiger orchid will enter a semi-dormant state for a short period of time. At this time, water it less and place it in a sunny place indoors.

Light and temperature requirements

When the light is strong in summer, shade should be provided, and in autumn, light and water and fertilizer management should be strengthened to promote the good development of inflorescence and contribute to the beautiful posture of the whole plant. The suitable temperature for the growing period of Tiger Orchid is 18~24℃, and the temperature should be kept at 13~15℃ in winter.

How to propagate tiger orchid

Seed propagation

The seeds of Tiger Orchid will mature more than two months after flowering. The seeds are relatively large, so they can be sown directly in pots. They will germinate about 15 days after sowing, and the seedlings will take four to five years to bloom.

Propagation by division

The small bulbs of Tiger Orchid develop relatively slowly and can usually be divided once every two to three years. When repotting in spring, take out the mother plant, break open the small bulbs with your hands, and then plant them separately.

Cutting propagation

From April to August, select leaves from plants with relatively strong growth, cut them into segments about ten centimeters long, and insert one-third of them into river sand (which must be free of impurities). After two or three months, several small buds will sprout, and when the small buds grow into three true leaves, they can be planted in pots.
