How to breed velvet needles

Cuttings

Velvet needles are very easy to grow in groups, and cuttings are its main method of reproduction.

Cut the strong branches at the top of the plant, wait for the wound to dry, and insert them into slightly moist soil in the pot, waiting for them to take root.

Leaf cuttings

The first thing to note when using velvet needle leaf cuttings is to break off complete leaves and not damage the growth points on the leaves. The growth point of the velvet needle leaves is the middle point.

The leaves of the velvet needle are very tough and not easy to break. When breaking it, pay attention to stay close to the leaf axil and break it slowly along the arc of the connecting part. This method has a high success rate.

Division

In addition to branch cuttings and leaf cuttings, velvet needles can also be divided. The survival rate of division is higher than that of branch cuttings and leaf cuttings.

Velvet needles have strong growth potential and can easily grow full and cover your small pot. At this time, you can trim and cut it into the shape you want. Some seedlings can also be found at the roots of the plants.

Pull up the seedlings, plant them in pots, and they will survive. Note that newly planted seedlings should be watered every 3 to 4 days to prevent the roots from being waterlogged.

Beheading

The propagation method of succulents is often inseparable from a method with a very bloody and violent name, which is beheading!

The velvet needles that are overgrown or have some problems can be beheaded to make the plants look better. When cutting off the head for cuttings, wait for the wound to dry, then insert it into the pot, water it every 3 to 4 days, and wait for it to take root.

sowing

Seeding is also one of the ways to propagate velvet needles, but it is rarely used. Seedlings grow slowly, so this is the choice of flower lovers who are very patient.
