How to cultivate Fritillaria

How to cultivate Fritillaria

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: From its distribution area, it can be seen that it requires a cooler temperature. Therefore, generally speaking, growth is more vigorous between 13 and 16 degrees. It does not like high temperatures. If the temperature is higher than 28 to 30 degrees, its growth may be inhibited.

2. Light: It has certain requirements for sunlight for growth and flowering, so it is best to let it receive more light during the period of vigorous growth, but try to block out too strong light. In summer, try to keep it in a cooler environment.

3. Watering: Water in time during the growth period. However, its root system is not very developed, so do not water it excessively or too much. In addition, in winter, it is best to control water consumption due to the possibility of freezing.

4. Fertilization: Because the root system is not well developed, the ability to absorb fertilizer is relatively poor. It is best to choose soil rich in humus and add fertilizer in time.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: It can be propagated by bulbs, which is a method of asexual reproduction. Available in late May to early June. Generally, the bulbs are dug up from the ground and separated according to their size. Use moist sandy soil as the cultivation medium. Using this method, you can harvest in about one to two years. If sexual reproduction is used, it will take about six years to harvest.

2. Pruning: A very important step for it is to remove the flower buds. When buds appear, if you don't want to keep seeds, it is best to pick them all off so as not to consume too many nutrients.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Diseases: "Sclerotinia disease" may occur, which is a very serious disease that harms bulbs. You can use carbendazim and other drugs to prevent and control it, and spray it once a week or ten days. In order to prevent this disease fundamentally, it is best to prevent it from the introduction step.

2. Pests: There are many types, such as "wireworms", "grubs", "mole crickets", etc. You can use poison bait to eliminate them or use medicine.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: Fritillaria is non-toxic and is a type of medicinal material.

2. Can it be grown at home? Generally not, because it is not an ornamental plant, but is grown as a medicinal herb.
