How to trim Milan flowers

How to trim Milan flowers

Pruning during the seedling stage

The shaping of Milan flowers should be started from the seedling stage, and only a 15-20 cm section of the main trunk should be retained. The main trunk should not be allowed to grow from the soil surface. It should be allowed to branch out and grow to make the plant fuller. Because the lower branches of perennial old plants are prone to withering, they should be pruned once every year during the high temperature period starting from the seedling stage to promote the growth of new side branches from the adventitious buds below the main branches, thereby maintaining a symmetrical tree posture, strong vigor, lush leaves and abundant flowers.

Pruning during the growing season

Timely pruning during the growing season can promote the sprouting of side branches, making the crown of Milan lush and well-spaced. When the plant grows too tall or is not in harmony with the space where it is placed, the branches that are too tall can be pruned back to allow the Milan flower to grow horizontally and expand the crown. But be careful when pruning. Pruning is generally carried out within one week before and after each flowering. At the same time, the top buds and flower buds should be appropriately removed during the bud formation period. Pruning is generally not required during the high temperatures in summer.

Spring Pruning

The first pruning of Milan in the year is in spring. Once you choose to move it outdoors (on the balcony), cut off the dead branches, diseased branches, and thin and dense branches to enhance ventilation and light transmission. And allow nutrients to be concentrated on the remaining branches, thereby promoting the growth of Milan.

Daily pruning

In fact, there is no fixed method for pruning Milan flowers. Except for the seedling stage and early spring, pruning in these two periods is necessary, and there are also special pruning situations. For example, in the north, pruning is needed every other year when the temperature is high. Cut off the tender branches growing out of the soil, pay attention to pinching the tips and maintaining the crown shape, and remove the remaining flowers in time after the flowering period. Pay attention to top dressing to facilitate the next flowering.
