How to grow gardenia

How to grow gardenia

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Gardenia is suitable for growing in acidic soil because it is very beneficial to its growth.

2. Watering: It is best to wait until the surface of the potting soil becomes dry before watering to avoid root rot due to excessive water accumulation. It is best to control the amount of watering in winter. The lower the temperature, the less watering is needed. Water once every 2-3 days in spring and autumn, once every morning and evening in summer, and once a week in winter.

3. Fertilization: Apply organic fertilizer as base fertilizer when repotting, apply organic liquid fertilizer once every 10 days during the growth period, and apply phosphorus fertilizer 2-3 times after budding.

4. Temperature: The temperature suitable for its growth is 20-28℃. The temperature is very low in winter. It is best to place it in a place with sufficient sunlight and suitable temperature.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Cutting propagation: Select mature young branches, cut them into 10-15cm long, and cut them into prepared soil. They will take root in 1 month and can be transplanted in about 2 months.

2. Layering propagation: Use 1-2 year old mature branches, about 25-30cm in length, put them into the soil about 3 cm, and they will take root in a month.

3. Common pests and diseases

1. Leaf spot disease: When the disease occurs, spots will appear on the plant. After the disease occurs, the diseased leaves should be removed as soon as possible to prevent the increase of infection sources. In normal times, ventilation should be strengthened and the diseased plants should be isolated to prevent infection to other plants. When the disease occurs, Bordeaux liquid can be sprayed, once a week or so.

2. Red spider mites: They can cause the leaves to turn yellow. To prevent and control them, you need to control the humidity. Wash them with water immediately after discovery. You can also spray them with water soaked in cigarette butts.
