How to grow magnolia

How to grow magnolia

1. Soil

Magnolia likes fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Soil that is too sticky and has poor air permeability and drainage is not conducive to its growth.

2. Watering

Magnolia has fleshy roots, so do not water it too much. Water it once a day in summer and spring to keep the soil moist, and water it in the morning and evening when the temperature is high. In autumn, the amount of watering should be reduced, which can make the branches more mature, delay its rooting, and help it survive the winter better. After entering winter, there is no need to water it, and you can water it once when the soil is drier.

3. Lighting

Magnolia is suitable for an environment with plenty of sunlight and needs to be exposed to sunlight every day, especially during the growing season, it needs to be exposed to sunlight for a long time, or it can be placed directly on a balcony where the sun can shine. At least 6 hours of sunlight must be guaranteed. Staying in a cool position for a long time is not conducive to its flowering. In the hot summer, you can provide appropriate shade and spray some water on the ground or around it to achieve a cooling effect. You can also increase the humidity in the air, which can help it grow better.

4. Fertilization

Applying fertilizer in moderation can help it grow better, but do not apply too much fertilizer. Fertilizing twice during the growing season can help it grow, once in early spring and again in May-June. Fertilizer generally needs to be decomposed organic fertilizer. Newly planted plants do not need to be fertilized. Fertilizer should be applied after the leaves fall or in the summer of the following year.
