How to fertilize coleus

How to fertilize coleus

Fertilization method of coleus: Apply enough base fertilizer

When planting coleus, people usually choose to plant it in a mixture of 2 parts leaf mold, 2 parts garden soil, and 1 part rice husk ash. Many people ignore the application of basal fertilizer. For most potted plants purchased directly from the market, the sellers have already prepared the soil and applied basal fertilizer. So after you get home, you can just take care of it. But if you repot the plant yourself, be sure to add some organic fertilizer and bone meal as base fertilizer to the potting soil. In addition, you can add an appropriate amount of phosphorus fertilizer to the potting soil to promote bright leaves.

Fertilization method of coleus: timely topdressing

Coleus likes fertilizer, so apply fertilizer in time during the maintenance process. During the peak growing season, apply compound fertilizer once a month. In addition, the proportion of phosphorus fertilizer can be appropriately increased when fertilizing. At the same time, avoid applying excessive nitrogen to coleus, otherwise the leaves will become dull.

Apply cake fertilizer or human feces and urine after each pinching. After autumn, the temperature is suitable and the growth is accelerated. Light fertilizer should be applied frequently. If necessary, add 0.1% urea for foliar spraying. Topdressing with thin liquid fertilizer can be done three times throughout the year.

Fertilization method of coleus: avoid too much or too little

Coleus likes fertilizer, but you cannot apply too much fertilizer. If you water and fertilize too much, it will easily cause the plant to grow too tall, the leaves will be thin and weak, the branches will be long, the internodes will be too long, and the leaves will be relatively sparse, which will greatly reduce its ornamental value.
