The cuttings of wintersweet are different from those of other flowers. It is best to do it in winter. You can choose to do it before the flowers bloom in December .

How to pick branches of wintersweet

Select strong wintersweet branches, dig up the base of the wintersweet, and cut off 1 to 3 year old branches with a diameter of more than 1 cm according to their growth trend. You can fold more branches according to your needs, 5 to 10 branches are fine.

Storage of Wintersweet Branches

Cut off the lower end of the removed branch, about 20 cm long, and smooth out the hairy part of the cut. Then arrange them into bundles and spray them with water. Wrap them tightly in double-layer plastic bags in a semi-wet state and place them in a dark place with a room temperature of 12 ℃ to 16 ℃.

After 20 days, there will be some white bulges on the cut part of the wintersweet. When the buds sprout, cuttings can be carried out.

If the number is small, you can choose a deeper tile flowerpot and select pure coarse sand. When operating, first use a small wooden stick to make holes in the wet sand, then put the cuttings in and bury them firmly. After all the cuttings are inserted, water them thoroughly once .

Maintenance after cutting of wintersweet

Whether the cuttings are in a flower pot or on a sand bed, they must be protected with plastic film after completion and placed indoors with good light and a temperature of no less than 12 °C.

Families can place it on a sunny windowsill near a heater. Do not water too frequently, it is best to do so when the soil is semi-dry. Strengthen management after the cuttings sprout leaves. Spraying the leaves with 0.3 % potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution once every 10 days or so will help rooting. In spring, the potted wintersweets can be moved to a sunny place outdoors. When the sunlight is too strong, move them to a semi-shaded place and gradually remove the plastic film.
