How to plant Polygonatum odoratum seeds

Planting period

Polygonatum odoratum seeds are suitable for autumn sowing. After the collected seeds are germinated and the germination rate is increased, they can be used for sowing.

October is a good time for sowing, not only because the newly collected seeds have not been stored and will not be damaged, but also because October has relatively good temperature and light conditions, which are conducive to seed germination.

If conditions are not favorable for sowing in autumn, the sowing time can be adjusted to around March of the following spring. This brings us to the issue of seed storage.

The seeds of Polygonatum odoratum can be stored in sand. Mix the seeds with wet sand and place in a dark place. Pay special attention to temperature control, 0℃~5℃ is enough.

If the temperature is too high, the seeds will germinate or rot. If the temperature is too low, the seeds will be frozen, affecting the germination rate of the seeds after planting.

Site selection and land preparation

The land for planting Polygonatum odoratum is crucial, as it not only affects the germination rate, but also the quality of the mature plants.

The choice of site depends on the texture of the cultivation soil. It is best to choose sandy loam that can drain water in time as its planting site. It is also necessary to ensure that the selected soil has a certain ventilation capacity to facilitate normal germination of seeds. In addition, pay attention to the pH value of the soil. It is best to be slightly lower than 7, which is more suitable for its growth.

The selection of a site also depends on the geographical location of the land, ensuring that it can receive sufficient light without affecting the normal growth of the plants due to excessive sunlight.

Before planting the seeds, the soil needs to be turned deeply once, ensuring that it is more than 30cm deep, to bring enough air into the soil. When turning the soil, pick out large stones in the soil to avoid affecting seed germination.

In addition, some base fertilizer needs to be applied to the soil, and the amount applied can be determined according to the specific number of plants planted.

Finally, the soil surface needs to be leveled and then made into a high ridge of about 13 cm.

Planting method

Before planting, dig horizontal trenches on the ridge, about every 10 cm or so, with a depth of about 3 cm.

Then sow the seeds evenly in the furrow, not too compactly, and sow about 10 to 12 grams of dry seeds per square meter. Then cover the seeds with soil until they are level with the bed surface. Then cover the soil with a layer of grass or leaves to keep it warm and moisturized.
