How to water ivy

How to water ivy

Ivy likes a warm and humid environment, so watering should be done according to the ambient temperature and growth conditions.

season

During the growing season of ivy, water it frequently, and adhere to the principle of watering it when it is dry and then watering it when it is wet. Be sure to water thoroughly, but do not allow water to accumulate in the soil, otherwise it will cause the ivy's roots to rot and its leaves to fall off. In addition, when the weather is dry, you can use clean water to wash the leaves, which not only ensures that the leaves are bright and clean, but also increases the air humidity. In winter, the growth and metabolism of ivy is slow, so control watering appropriately to ensure that the soil in the pot is slightly moist.

Flower pot material

Ivy flowerpots are usually plastic pots and clay pots. When the soil is the same, the water evaporation of the two is different. Water in plastic pots evaporates slowly, so the watering intervals for ivy planted in plastic pots should be longer. Normally, ivy planted in plastic pots can be watered once every 4-6 days, while clay pots need to be watered once every 2-4 days.

Growth

The growth of ivy is the best indicator of whether there is enough water. Observe the growth of the plant 1 to 2 days after watering. If the leaves are dark green and there is nothing abnormal, do not water it for the time being. If the plant wilts and has yellow leaves, it may be due to overwatering and needs to be removed from the pot immediately. Secondly, you can also insert wooden chopsticks into the soil to check whether the bottom layer of the soil is lacking water, depending on the condition of the soil. If there is a lot of wet soil on the chopsticks, the plant is not short of water. Otherwise, water should be replenished in time.
