Simple cutting propagation method of asparagus fern

Simple cutting propagation method of asparagus fern

Timing of cuttings of asparagus fern

Cuttings can be carried out throughout the year, but the temperature must be between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.

Selection of cuttings for asparagus fern

When taking cuttings, choose asparagus fern with many branches and vigorous growth. Gently dig up the surrounding potting soil to expose the junction of the branches and roots. Use a sharp knife to make a small cut half a centimeter above the rhizome junction of the branch to be used as the cutting. Leave the cut exposed for half a day, then apply a layer of clean fresh moss, and keep it moist at all times.

Pruning of Asparagus fern cuttings

After 10 days, remove the fresh moss. When you see tumor-like healing tissue at the scar, you can cut it off close to the root. Keep two branches and cut them back by one third, and cut off the rest.

Cuttings of Asparagus fern

Use a bamboo stick to make a hole in the center of the cloth bag (the bag is 8-10 cm high, 6 cm in diameter, and filled with moist sandy soil), insert the cuttings 2 cm into the hole, and compact it. Arrange the cloth bags with the cuttings one by one along the inner wall of the pot, place a wide-mouthed glass bottle of appropriate height in the center of the pot, and wrap a 60-70 cm gauze strip around the outside of each cloth bag, with both ends of the strip extending into the bottom of the glass bottle.

Filling soil for asparagus fern cuttings

Finally, fill the pot with soil so that the mouth of the glass bottle is slightly higher than the soil surface, spray it with water once, and fill the glass bottle with water. In the future, as long as you keep water in the glass bottle, you can supply water to the grafted asparagus fern normally and appropriately.

Place the cutting pot in a cool, windproof place. New roots will grow in about 20 days, and it can be planted in a pot after 1 month.
