How to grow gardenia in winter

Wintering tips

temperature

Gardenia doesn't like winter. Once the temperature drops, it starts hibernating. So don't panic if the leaves fall off or even stop growing in winter, this is normal. At this time, place the plant in an environment with a temperature of 6~12℃ and let it overwinter naturally.

Sunlight

Even in winter, gardenias should be exposed to sunlight, but the light should not be too strong. Ensure 3 to 4 hours of sunlight every day. Although it will stop growing, moderate light in winter can promote the plant to bloom next year.

Watering

Make sure to water it once a month. The time is not fixed, depending on the environment at home. If the environment is dry and the soil in the pot is relatively dry, you can water it. Remember not to wait until the soil is dry before watering, as the plants may die easily and be difficult to recover.

Precautions

The normal growth cycle of gardenia begins in April. When the temperature gradually rises, it will begin to recover and start growing. So don't break its winter dormancy and force it to grow in winter just for the sake of viewing. This will shorten the life of the plant and produce fewer flowers in the second year. Friends who love flowers should not disturb the tranquility of winter and let them have a good rest. Fresher flowers will bloom next year.

Therefore, the most scientific method is to cultivate gardenia according to its natural growth period in winter. Only in this way can it reproduce year after year and bloom attractive flowers in the flowering season.
