What to do if the leaves of Tigerthorn Plum turn yellow and fall off

What to do if the leaves of Tigerthorn Plum turn yellow and fall off

1. Drainage and root pruning

Cause: Excessive watering or rain during the rainy season causes water to accumulate in the potting soil. The accumulated water submerges the roots and causes them to rot, resulting in yellowing of the leaves.

Solution: Carefully remove the Euphorbia from the pot, remove some of the old soil, and check the roots. After cutting off the rotten roots, soak them in a solution of carbendazim for disinfection. After drying, replant in dry soil.

2. Improve ventilation

Reason: Poor air circulation will reduce the oxygen content, which is not good for the respiration of Euphorbia milii leaves, causing them to turn yellow and fall off.

Solution: Move the Euphorbia milii to a well-ventilated place. If grown indoors, place it on the balcony. Open windows more often to improve ventilation. If the temperature is too low, ventilation should be carried out at noon when there is no wind to avoid freezing of the plants by cold air.

3. Increase the temperature

Reason: Euphorbia milii is not suitable for growing in a low temperature environment. Too low a temperature may cause frostbite or death of the plant, causing its leaves to turn yellow and fall off.

Solution: Place the Euphorbia milii in a warm place before winter. The temperature must be kept above 0℃. If it is around 15℃, it can grow normally. In addition, low temperatures cause it to enter a dormant period, and leaf fall is a normal phenomenon at this time.

4. Increase Lighting

Reason: Euphorbia milii requires long periods of sunlight. Insufficient sunlight will lead to poor growth, causing the leaves to turn yellow and fall off.

Solution: Adequate light can allow Euphorbia milii to grow healthily, so it needs to be placed in a sunny place for maintenance. In summer, you can provide appropriate shade to avoid burning the leaves. In spring and autumn, it can be placed in sunlight all day. In winter, it should be placed in a bright place indoors to receive scattered light.
