How to fertilize Phalaenopsis

How to fertilize Phalaenopsis

The relationship between fertilization and time

During the growth period of Phalaenopsis, low-concentration water and fertilizer should be applied, and thin fertilizers should be applied frequently. Stop fertilizing when the temperature is above 32℃ or below 15℃.

Before July, root fertilizer and foliar topdressing should be applied alternately. Apply a general compound fertilizer of nitrogen: phosphorus: potassium (1:1:1) once and dilute it into 2000 times liquid for proper root irrigation.

Apply liquid fertilizer every 15 days in August;

After September, apply 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution as foliar fertilizer;

After October, it is necessary to control water and fertilizer to promote the formation of flower buds. During this period, foliar fertilizers should mainly be root phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and micro-fertilizers (boron, iron, zinc, etc.) should be applied appropriately.

Fertilizer selection

It is recommended to use compound fertilizer or nitrogen fertilizer. Different fertilizers should be selected for different fertilization methods.

Too much nitrogen fertilizer can easily cause excessive leaf growth;

If the soluble salt concentration is too high, the roots will die; if the concentration is too low, the plant will lack necessary trace elements.

Key points to note when fertilizing

Keep in mind the principle of "apply small amounts of fertilizer frequently"; stop fertilizing in case of abnormal weather (high or low temperature); do not fertilize when the roots are too wet.

When using water and fertilizer, you must also ensure smooth air convection to avoid water accumulation, which can cause suffocation. When there are still water droplets on the surface of the leaves around 4 pm, increase ventilation.

The roots and leaves of Phalaenopsis can absorb fertilizer, and the orchid plants should be wet as much as possible when fertilizing.

When applying water-soluble fertilizers, a small amount of adhesive can be added to improve the adhesion of the fertilizer.
